“The Fighting Rooster” will return to action on March 24 at ONE Fight Night 8: Bhullar vs. Malykhin on Prime Video when he squares off with Russian sensation Torepchi Dongak.

Set to go down at the Singapore Indoor Stadium and air live in U.S. primetime, the showdown will be Zhang’s first since his World Title loss to Jonathan Di Bella last October – a five-round war and one of 2022’s most electrifying fights.

As the Chinese star begins his climb back to another shot at divisional gold, he aims to send a message to the rest of the division and remind fans that he is a truly special athlete.

With that said, these are the weapons that make Zhang such a dangerous contender.

Absurdly High Work Rate

The Shengli Fight Club representative is one of the most well-conditioned strikers in all of kickboxing, and he uses his endless gas tank to fight at an incredibly high pace.

Simply put, Zhang is a volume striker, drowning his opponents in non-stop attacks from the opening bell to the last.

That high-output approach is certainly fan-friendly, but it has also proven to be effective against elite competition. In his second ONE bout, for example, the teenager poured on the offense against dangerous Russian standout Aslanbek Zikreev, overwhelming and exhausting his foe on his way to an action-packed decision victory.

Devastating Left Hook

In terms of a single strike, Zhang’s most dangerous weapon is his thunderous left hook, which serves as the centerpiece of his game.

He’s able to follow it up with brutal kicks, string it together in combination with other punches, or simply double up the attack in rapid succession. “The Fighting Rooster” always throws his left hook with bad intentions.

In his promotional debut against former ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title challenger Josh Tonna, Zhang found a home for this strike to his opponent’s head and body time and time again, eventually scoring a spectacular finish in the second round as the rib-crunching left hooks piled up.

Punishing Counters

While the 19-year-old is more than happy to lead the dance, he’s also an immensely effective counter-striker.

Leaning on his elite conditioning and blazing speed, Zhang rarely allows his opponents to attack without answering back with strikes of his own. What makes his counter-attacks so special is that he tends to reply with combinations rather than single punches.

This allows him to tack on extra damage and overwhelm his foes, because for every strike they throw, they can expect two, three, or even four ferocious attacks coming back their way.
