Anthony Engelen Knocks Out AJ Lias Mansor In Stunning Fashion
Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen, a Dutch-Indonesian featherweight standout based in Jakarta, put on a masterful performance, stopping Malaysian fight veteran A.J. “Pyro” Lias Mansor in less than two minutes.
Engelen pressed Mansor up against the cage fence with a combination before a beautiful right hand landed right on Mansor’s jaw, felling him instantly.
The two fighters met on the main card of ONE: QUEST FOR POWER, which took place Saturday evening, 14 January, at the Jakarta Convention Center in the heart of Indonesia’s capital city.
Engelen, who represents Tatsujin Dojo and Alliance Indonesia in Jakarta, overwhelmed Mansor with his pinpoint striking. Though known for his ability to submit opponents with a robust grappling skill set, Engelen showed fans a different side of his overall capabilities as a fighter.
Mansor, who had not been in professional competition since his 2013 showdown with Malaysian countryman Melvin Yeoh, showed a little bit of cage rust at the beginning of the bout. His movement just did not seem as fluid as fans have gotten accustomed to seeing.
As a result, Engelen capitalized, and rushed Mansor with strikes to author one of the most exciting finishes of his career. The official finish came at 1:42 of the very first round.
“Thank you all for coming, I feel awesome. Thank you so much. I could not have hoped for anything better than this,” said an emotional Engelen during the post-fight interview.
“I came here after an awesome training camp feeling sharp and feeling strong. There’s nothing better than (that finish). It’s an awesome feeling.”
With the victory, Engelen improves his record to 6-3, while Mansor drops to 2-4.
