Ev “E.T.” Ting achieved a milestone in his mixed martial arts career on Friday, 12 July.

The 28-year-old rallied to defeat Pancrase Welterweight World Champion Daichi Abe via TKO in the second round of their lightweight affair at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY.

Not only did Ting snap a two-bout skid inside the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but he also earned his 10th victory when competing in his home country.

Abe, who made his lightweight debut, started the contest by throwing hard blows at his rival. “E.T.” responded with a single-leg takedown, but the action quickly returned to the feet.

Both proceeded to trade heavy leather, but it was the Tokyo-based warrior who got the better of the exchanges, as he sent the hometown favorite crashing to the canvas with a series of punches.

The Malaysian recovered, got back to his feet, and winged punches at his adversary, who brilliantly countered the shots. Ting momentarily stopped the Japanese competitor by catching his leg and dropping him with an overhand right.

Although “E.T.” followed him to the ground to rain down strikes, Abe leaned on his black belt judo expertise to pull guard and calmly found a way to escape the punishment. Once the two were standing again, they continued to trade more leather until the end of the frame.

The two hard-hitting athletes looked fresh as they entered the second round.

Following another wild exchange of punches and kicks, the pair took the action to the mat, but neither was able to deliver any significant damage or gain an edge while on the canvas.

Once they returned to the feet, it was a toe-to-toe battle. This time, however, Ting was getting the better of the exchanges and he dropped the visiting foe with a clean overhand right.

“E.T.” swarmed the 27-year-old with his ground and pound attack. As Abe tried to escape, the local hero wrapped his body around him, locked in the rear-naked choke, and forced the Japanese star to submit with 16 seconds remaining in the period.

The win improved Ting’s mixed martial arts record to 17-6.
