ONE Super Series To Launch In April 2018
ONE Championship has been staging the world’s best martial arts action for the past six and a half years, and now the organization is planning to introduce a new global league specially for elite strikers.
The move was announced on Monday, 12 February, by Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship.
“I am thrilled to announce the addition of ONE Super Series, a global super league that will feature the world’s greatest strikers from Muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, kung fu, sanda, lethwei, silat, and more,” said Sityodtong, in a Facebook post.
“ONE: HEROES OF HONOR in Manila on April 20 will be our first hybrid show in a ring with bouts from various styles of martial arts. Legendary multiple-time world champion Giorgio Petroysan (85-2-2, 2 NC) will face Lion Fight world champion Jo Nattawut (60-11-2) under international kickboxing rules.
“Also on the card, multiple-time Muay Thai world champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao (255-54-1) will compete against multiple-time Muay Thai world champion Fabio Pinca (99-23-4) under Muay Thai rules with ONE gloves.”
In addition to those world-class talents, other elite strikers who have signed on to compete in the ONE Super Series include Muay Thai world champions Petchboonchu FA Group, Yodsaenklai Fairtex, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, Singtongnoi Por Telakun, Kwankhao Mor. Rattanabandit, and Yodcherry Sityodtong.
Also, some of ONE Championship’s most talented martial artists and Muay Thai world champions, Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, Sagetdao “Deadly Star” Petpayathai, and Alain “The Panther” Ngalani are slated to participate in the exciting new league.
“ONE Championship is dedicated to giving fans an authentic martial arts experience. We are proud to announce that the absolute best strikers in the world have chosen to continue their professional careers under the ONE banner,” Sityodtong stated, in an official press release.
“Fans will be treated to the most exciting striking matches where the best face the best inside of both our ring and our cage. Some matches will be under standard international kickboxing rules in our ring, and other matches will be under modified hybrid striking rules in our cage. This is a game changer in the world of martial arts, and I am excited to kick things off this April.”
Last January, ONE Championship held its first-ever Muay Thai bout.
At ONE: GLOBAL SUPERHEROES, Sam-A Gaiyanghadao, an all-time great three-division Muay Thai world champion, clashed with Italy’s Joseph “The Hurricane” Lasiri, a WBC Muay Thai world champion. The Thai earned the TKO victory in the second round.
The strikers’ only battle thoroughly excited the crowd at Manila’s Mall Of Asia Arena, and since it was the venue to host the organization’s first-ever Muay Thai bout, then it is only fitting the ONE Super Series makes its big premiere in the same building with two incredible showdowns.
