Yodsanklai opened up the 72-kilogram ONE Super Series kickboxing contest inside the Ryogoku Kokugikan with his famous left kick, but it was his boxing that caused the first decisive moment of the match.

Souwer was dropped inside the opening 30 seconds when he walked onto a short right hand.

The Dutchman recovered, but “The Hero” kept up the pressure. The two-time K-1 World Max Champion tried to dart in and out of range to land his punches, but he was met by the Thai’s powerful blows almost every time he came forward.

When Yodsanklai pressed his old rival toward the fence, he landed with even more precision, which prompted Souwer to enter survival mode by rushing forward to drag his adversary to the canvas.

The man from Amsterdam tried to take the initiative at the start of round two, but a stiff jab met him in the middle of the cage to temper his offense.

Yodsanklai continued his attack, and a jab-cross combination up against the fence sent Souwer to the ground. However, he was judged to have slipped instead of being knocked down.

Still, “The Hero” could clearly see a finish was in the cards, and he dialed up the intensity.

Yodsanklai backed Souwer against the cage again and let rip with a heavy combination, punctuated with a stiff left hand that crumpled his opponent to the mat.

Souwer tried to beat the referee’s count, but it was all over just 51 seconds into round two.

The victory took the Fairtex Gym superstar’s ONE Super Series record to 3-0, and it extended the unbeaten streak he has kept for more than seven years.

After his hand was raised to confirm his 202nd professional martial arts victory, “The Hero” spoke with Mitch Chilson and looked forward to the ONE Super Series Featherweight World Grand Prix.

“I’m very happy and very pleased with my performance – I didn’t expect it to be a fast knockout,” Yodsanklai said.

“I’m going to do my best, and I am waiting for that belt – that challenge [in the featherweight division].”
