About April Osenio
Status: Former ONE Athlete
Philippines National Wushu Champion April Osenio was one of six siblings, and her parents were both farmers who struggled to make ends meet. Thus, she had to do manual work during her spare time to earn a bit of extra income. To contribute to the household, she started training in martial arts when she was 17, and went on to win gold medals at the Wushu National Games in both 2013 and 2014.
She then joined the famous Team Lakay in Baguio, and made her professional cage debut against Kirstie Gannaway at ONE: AGE OF CHAMPIONS in 2014. Although Osenio put on an impressive display, she was submitted in the second round. However, the loss spurred her to intensify her training, and she quickly expanded her skills in all areas of the game. Her improvements quickly paid dividends, as she followed up a successful professional kickboxing debut with impressive submission victories over Natalie Gonzales Hills and Malaysian superstar Ann Osman to catapult her up the ONE Championship ranks.
