About Asraful Islam
Status: Former ONE Athlete
Bangladeshi National Wushu Champion Asraful Islam was born and raised in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Growing up, he did not do as well in school as he should have, because his mind was always on martial arts. He would sometimes even skip school or lie to his parents in order to slip away and train.
Having idolized Bruce Lee his entire life, Asraful started training in Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do in 2012. However, after meeting his coach Ishtiak Ahmed, he began competing in various other styles of martial arts as well, with his success int he ring eventually leading his way to ONE Championship.
Islam brought a spectacular combat sports record into his promotional debut, and continues working hard on his overall game in order to find success against the best martial artists in the world. He hopes to represent his country well as one of the only Bangladeshi martial artists to compete on the global stage, and although his family does not see martial arts as a viable career option, it has only driven him further to show them it is a respectable and highly-rewarding career path.
