Former ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion Shinya Aoki is the most successful submission specialist in Asian martial arts.
An iconic figure, he is known for his overpowering ground game, which had won him titles with WAMMA, DREAM, and Shooto before he began his career with ONE Championship in 2012.
Throughout his fabled career, the Japanese lightweight legend has beaten some of the biggest names in the world, including Eddie Alvarez, Eduard Folayang, and John Lineker.
He became ONE Lightweight MMA World Champion in April 2013 and reigned as the divisional king for 1,316 days. After he lost his belt to Folayang in 2016, Aoki went on an incredible career resurgence. He notched four first-round wins in a row, including a submission of Folayang, to reclaim the ONE Lightweight MMA World Title in front of his compatriots at ONE’s historic debut in Japan.
Although he lost the belt in his next fight, the man with the raspiest voice in MMA never stopped evolving as a fighter. He took on any and all comers across multiple sports and weightclasses.
To this day, the longtime superstar remains a dangerous threat in the lightweight division as both a formidable grappler and a legendary mixed martial artist.
