About Shozo Isojima
Some fighters are made in gyms. But Shozo Isojima was made in the countryside of Mie Prefecture, molded by sacrifice, held together by family, and driven by a debt he intends to spend his entire career repaying.
Born and raised in Kuwana City in the rural heartland of Mie Prefecture, Isojima grew up in a household shaped by absence and held together by love. His parents divorced when he was young, and he has no memory of his mother. His grandmother, older brother, and older sister stepped in to fill the gap, with his sister driving him to practice and putting meals on the table. Meanwhile, their father worked long hours running a small construction company he had built from the ground up.
However, it was his brother who pointed him toward martial arts. At age 13, Isojima followed in his sibling’s footsteps and took up judo – a decision that would quietly alter the course of his life. He excelled through his years at Yokkaichi Central Technical High School and Kogakuin University in Shinjuku, developing the grappling foundations that would later define his fighting style.
After university, Isojima returned to Mie Prefecture, settling in Iga and finding a gym in nearby Nabari City almost by chance. Soon, his MMA path would open up.
Adding new skills to his judo base proved challenging at first. But after a year of grinding, he submitted his opponent in his amateur debut and never looked back. Four more amateur victories followed before he turned professional in 2023, winning his first pro contest by submission and announcing himself as a serious talent.
What makes Isojima’s story resonate beyond the record is what drives him. Every bonus, every victory, and every step forward on the global stage is an opportunity to give back to the people who gave everything when they had little to spare.
For a man who owes everything to the people who had nothing to give, greatness is not ambition. It is obligation.
