About Vy Srey Khouch
Status: Former ONE Athlete
Kun Khmer Flyweight Champion Vy Srey Khouch is from a Cambodian martial arts family – out of seven siblings, four of them are professional competitors. Growing up in Phnom Penh, she first became interested in Kun Khmer while watching bouts with her grandfather on TV as a child, and soon found her way to a local gym to begin training.
After high school, her family did not have the money to send her to college, so she decided to pursue a professional career. She competed in Kun Khmer and boxing, travelling around Asia and Europe as part of the Cambodian national team, until a chance opportunity led to her mixed martial arts debut. Her sister Vy Srey Chai had already competed once in ONE Championship, and was scheduled to do so again in December 2015, but had to pull out of her match. With just 24 hours’ notice, Vy Srey Khouch took her sister’s place, and won via split decision.
After winning her professional debut, she accepted another bout, and went to Phuket, Thailand, to improve her skill set and groundwork. She then got right back in the cage and won by impressive knockout in her next outing, setting herself up for a successful career in the cage. Vy Srey Khouch has never had a job outside of training and competing, and believes that showcasing her skills in ONE Championship provides her with a life-changing opportunity that she intends to seize.
