Former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke (8-3) will make a roaring homecoming this Saturday, 24 March.

The Muay Thai legend will square off against Filipino striker Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado (6-2) in a strawweight contest at ONE: IRON WILL, which emanates from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Amnuaysirichoke is looking to build some momentum in an effort to reclaim the ONE Strawweight World Title, and as the Thai hero prepares to do so, let’s take a look back at three of his most impressive victories.

On 22 May 2015, at ONE: WARRIOR’S QUEST, Amnuaysirichoke made history. He clashed with Filipino boxer Roy “The Dominator” Doliguez for the inaugural ONE Strawweight World Title, and earned a few crowning achievements.

Amnuaysirichoke, a former three-time Lumpinee Stadium world champion in two separate weight classes, is understandably revered for his magnificent Muay Thai skills, so it was no surprise when the Filipino sought to take the contest to the ground almost immediately.

Merely seconds after the opening bell chimed, Doliguez dove in for a single leg takedown. It did not work, however. Amnuaysirichoke showed that he was far more than a sensational striker, as he thwarted Doliguez, and actually managed to control the majority of a scramble-filled first round on the canvas.

This trend continued as the bout progressed. The Thai dominated his foe through the majority of the grappling exchanges, and pressed forward with his world-class striking arsenal whenever the action returned to the feet.

By the time the fifth round of this thrilling encounter concluded, Amnuaysirichoke had erased any doubts about his versatility. He had proven that he was far more than just a Muay Thai specialist, and rightfully earned a unanimous decision victory.

With the victory, he not only became the inaugural ONE Strawweight World Champion, but the first Thai-born ONE World Champion.

When Amnuaysirichoke stepped into the cage with Indonesia’s Adrian “Papua Badboy” Matheis at ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES in May 2017, he did so after two heartbreaking setbacks. Yoshitaka Naito had taken his strawweight world title a year earlier, and rising superstar Joshua Pacio edged him out in a split decision after that.

Though the risk of a third-straight loss towered ominously on the horizon, the Thai hero showed no fear. He pressed forward from the opening bell, and showcased the full breadth of his dangerous Muay Thai arsenal. The former world titleholder cracked his opponent with lightning-fast punches, knees, and kicks to the legs and body.

Although the young Matheis showed impressive resilience, the Thai did not relent, and with just 34 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, the veteran knocked him out with a rocket-fueled left hand to the chin.

The Thai hero had rebounded from his previous defeats with a highlight reel knockout victory, and got the ball rolling back towards world title contention.

Riding the momentum of his knockout win over Matheis, Amnuaysirichoke next set his sights on Filipino warrior Robin “The Ilongo” Catalan, who he met at ONE: QUEST FOR GREATNESS in August 2017.

What made this bout particularly interesting was the fact that the Thai defeated his opponent’s older brother, multi-time wushu world champion Rene Catalan, nearly three years prior. Oddly enough, the bout would end in similar fashion.

Early in the opening stanza, Amnuaysirichoke was taken for a ride through the air, and slammed down to the canvas. Although he initially gave Catalan some interesting looks on the mat, the Filipino ultimately secured the back mount.

The Muay Thai specialist briefly escaped, but was promptly taken to the mat again, where “The Ilongo” threatened with a heel hook before the bell rang to end the round.

Perhaps sensing that was on the back foot, Amnuaysirichoke chose to initiate the clinch early in the second — and that choice proved to be the right one.

From this position, the Thai force-fed his adversary a barrage of elbows and knees until Catalan collapsed to the ground. The contest was waved off just 46 seconds into the stanza, giving Amnuaysirichoke an impressive TKO win.
