5 Stellar Submissions From The Stars Of ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON
There may be a good chance of knockouts at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON, but there are bound to be a few submissions, too.
In the headlining attraction on Saturday, 8 September, ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan (15-1) will defend her belt against Brazilian challenger Samara Santos (12-5-1).
Also, the rest of the card at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China, is populated by an assortment of ONE Championship’s most prolific finishers, including a few with a proven penchant for jaw-dropping submissions.
With that in mind, here are five great submission victories from the stars of ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON.

Former ONE Featherweight World Title challenger Christian “The Warrior” Lee (9-2) had his hands full when he stepped into the cage with Japanese veteran and two-division DEEP Champion Kazunori Yokota at ONE: VISIONS OF VICTORY in March.
Despite the scale of this task, the young Singaporean was able to produce an impressive and innovative, submission victory.
This incredible win from Lee occurred in the final minute of the second round, after some dizzying scrambles.
When Yokota tried to return to his feet, “The Warrior” latched onto his neck, cleverly dropped down to the canvas and secured a guillotine choke. Then, he tilted the Japanese athlete sideways, locked in a body figure-four, and squeezed. There was no room for escape, and the Japanese veteran quickly submitted to “The Terminator Guillotine.”
Lee hopes to get another stoppage victory in Shanghai when he meets Team Lakay’s Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly (10-5).

In August 2017, at ONE: KINGS & CONQUERERS, Chinese bantamweight “Rock Man” Chen Lei (8-0) picked up one of the biggest wins of his impressive career, as he submitted Malaysian Muay Thai powerhouse Saiful “The Vampire” Merican.
Merican certainly did not make it easy, however. He showed incredible resilience through round one and two, but as the third frame wore on, Chen finally got the win he sought.
After spending a prolonged period in full mount, the persistent “Rock Man” climbed into position for a textbook armbar. “The Vampire” tried to defend, but it was too late. He tapped out with just 62 seconds remaining in the match.
The unbeaten Chinese star will look to impress his countrymen at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON, when he faces another Malaysian hero – “Jungle Cat” Muhammad Aiman – in Shanghai.

At ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON, Indonesian Wrestling Champion Elipitua Siregar (28-6 in wrestling) will look for his second mixed martial arts victory when he faces three-time Cambodian National Kun Khmer Champion Phat Soda (150-25 in Kun Khmer) in a strawweight showdown.
Siregar’s made his mixed martial arts debut at ONE: GRIT & GLORY in May, where he took on Indonesian Sanda Champion Dodi Mardian. It was a clash of styles, and the grappler took the match into his world to overcome the striker.
Throughout the opening stanza, Siregar imposed his will, and he grounded his fellow countryman. As Mardian tried to escape, the wrestler got onto his back, locked in his hooks, and applied an airtight rear-naked choke.
He wrapped a figure-four around his opponent’s body, and tightened the squeeze to put Mardian to sleep at 3:59 of round one.

Amir Khan (10-3) was almost the victim of a submission against Filipino warrior Vaughn “The Spawn” Donayre at ONE: DEFENDING HONOR in November 2016. In the second round, Donayre locked up his rival’s arm in a tight Kimura, and very nearly took it home with him.
Showing incredible resilience and flexibility, however, Khan survived, escaped, and made it into the third round. In the final frame, the Singaporean Muay Thai Champion proved why he is such a well-rounded threat.
Khan shot for the takedown, patiently advanced his position, and passed into full-mount. The exhausted Filipino rolled over in an effort to escape, but the Evolve product methodically cinched in the rear-naked choke.
He trapped Donayre’s left arm to stop his defense, and though “The Spawn” tried to hold on, he was forced to submit halfway into the round.
The Singaporean displayed his resilience, and at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON, he will attempt to stop the career resurgence of the resurgent warrior below.

When lightweight contender Honorio “The Rock” Banario (13-6) steps into the cage with Khan at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON, he will be looking for another impressive stoppage win – much like his submission defeat of Rajinder Singh Meena in December 2016.
Midway through the first round of this lightweight affair, Banario completed his second takedown, and landed in half-guard. From this position, the Team Lakay veteran softened his foe up with ground strikes until the opportunity for a submission presented itself.
With less than a minute remaining in the round, “The Rock” reached for a kimura, floated over Meena’s head, and then transitioned to an armbar to immediately force the Indian to submit.
Should the former ONE Featherweight World Champion defeat Khan in Shanghai, he will extend his perfect record at lightweight to 6-0, and position himself perfectly for a World Title shot in a second division.
