Breaking Down Aaron Canarte’s 5 Best MMA Skills Ahead Of ONE Fight Night 24

Aaron Canarte Akbar Abdullaev ONE Fight Night 12 5

At ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video, Ecuadorian standout Aaron “Tommy Gun” Canarte will return for his sophomore appearance in the world’s largest martial arts organization to take on #5-ranked featherweight MMA contender Shamil “The Cobra” Gasanov.

Set to go down on August 2 in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, that matchup will be Canarte’s first appearance since suffering the lone defeat of his career. Now, the 27-year-old is undoubtedly hungry to bounce back.

Widely recognized as one of the top talents to come out of South America in recent years, “Tommy Gun” looks to have all the makings of a mainstay in the upper echelon of the talent-packed featherweight MMA division.

Ahead of his highly anticipated clash with Gasanov, these are five weapons that make Canarte a supremely dangerous MMA fighter.

#1 A Show-Stopping Right Hand

The Phuket Fight Club representative is well-rounded and possesses elite skills in all areas of MMA. When the fight is on the feet, though, he tends to do his best work with his missile of a right hand.

Canarte loves to pepper his foe with a stinging jab before unleashing his big overhand right – a punch that he lands with incredible accuracy and shocking power.

#2 Punishing Leg Kicks

Of course, Canarte’s striking game consists of much more than just a right hand.

The Ecuadorian is a skilled and dynamic kicker. While he will throw the occasional head kick, he is perhaps more dangerous when pulverizing his opponent with crippling leg kicks.

When those kicks add up and his rival has slowed down, “Tommy Gun” will look to attack the head with a knockout blow.

#3 Clinical Guard Passing

Beyond his venomous stand-up game, Canarte is an equally talented grappler, boasting three submission victories along with his three knockout wins.

Notably, he’s an incredibly strong positional ground fighter who rarely settles to sit in his opponent’s guard. Instead, he will diligently work to pass the guard and gain a dominant position, where he will hunt for the submission or rain down ruthless ground strikes.

#4 A Deadly Arm-Triangle Choke

Once he’s secured a takedown and a dominant top position, Canarte will often aim to set up his favorite submission – the arm-triangle choke.

Importantly, this submission required a great deal of control and squeezing power, which the talented competitor has in spades.

#5 Never-Ending Cardio

Finally, perhaps the single most dangerous part of “Tommy Gun’s” overall MMA arsenal is his endless gas tank.

Canarte is no stranger to fighting for 15 full minutes at an incredibly high pace and often overwhelms his opponent with relentless pressure, even picking up the aggression as the fight drags into deep waters.
