Demetrious Johnson Interested In Kickboxing Fights Against Petrosyan, Superbon

Demetrious Johnson unleashes a kick to Rodtang Jitmuangnon's body during their mixed rules superfight at ONE X

Demetrious Johnson broke new ground when he defeated Muay Thai megastar Rodtang Jitmuangnon in ONE’s first special rules super-fight back in March.

And given that clash was so well-received by fans, the MMA legend would enjoy crossing over to battle superstars from other sports.

For now, “Mighty Mouse” is preparing to challenge ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes for the second time at ONE on Prime Video I on August 26 in North American primetime.

But whether or not he claims the belt, the American is interested in testing his individual skill sets against the best specialists on the planet.

He’s long toyed with the idea of a kickboxing bout, and as one of the greatest mixed martial artists in history, the idea of facing a striking GOAT is intriguing.

Johnson told ONE Championship:

“I wouldn’t mind fighting Giorgio Petrosyan to see how well he manages the distance in a fight. I heard he has really good eyes.”

Johnson would need to step up in weight to battle “The Doctor,” who is currently ONE’s #3-ranked featherweight kickboxing contender.

With that in mind, “Mightly Mouse” would also like to square off with the man who shocked viewers by knocking out Petrosyan last year – reigning ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon Singha Mawynn

Though Superbon came from a Muay Thai background, he’s become the best in the world since switching sports – although Johnson wants to evaluate those talents firsthand.

He said:

“Who else? Superbon to see how good his kickboxing is. I think Superbon’s Muay Thai is way better than his kickboxing, to be honest with you. I think he’s a Muay Thai guy.”

Demetrious Johnson: Mikey Musumeci Would ‘Eat Me Up Alive’ In Grappling Contest

With Demetrious Johnson’s MMA training covering all areas of combat sports, he’s well-versed in striking, wrestling, and submissions.

However, he recently reinvigorated his love for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at a new gym, and a submission grappling match against fellow American Mikey Musumeci is something that intrigues him.

Still, the humble MMA superstar won’t get ahead of himself. He has a lot of respect for the grappling purists and realizes he would be in tough against multiple-time BJJ World Champion “Darth Rigatoni.”

Johnson added:

“I know people want me to grapple Mikey Musumeci. He will eat me up alive. Those guys live, breathe, and eat Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, right? I’ve started grappling with a gi, and I’ve just been doing pure grappling, and there are levels to it. It’s just the sheer fact.

“I’m sure I’ll train with Mikey Musumeci one of these days, but we can compete if he wants. But I know how it would go. He will tear my ACL!”
