After winning the first five matches in her professional career, Taipei, China’s Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang (5-2) has come up short in her most recent contests, as she fell to the women’s atomweight division’s top two talents – reigning World Champion Angela Lee and Mei Yamaguchi.

however, the 27-year-old has a true warrior spirit, and it is clear she has not been deterred by those setbacks. If anything, it has only motivated her even more.

Huang, a former ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title challenger, will return to action on Friday, 20 April, at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, which will emanate from the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

She will battle Team Lakay’s Gina “Conviction” Iniong, in a bout that could send the victor rocketing towards world title contention. Iniong is a six-time national wushu champion, with a perfect wushu record of 14-0.

As the black belt judoka prepares to take on a striking ace, we take a look back at three of Huang’s most impressive submissions to date, and see just why Iniong could be in for trouble.

In her third professional match back in January 2016, Huang met three-time Egyptian national wrestling champion Amira Badr at ONE: CLASH OF HEROES in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Badr sought to apply her strengths early in this contest, as she shot for a takedown in the opening seconds of the first round. Showing off some world-class grappling of her own, however, Huang was able to thwart this attempt, which allowed her to get to work with her ever-improving striking technique.

It was in this phase of the contest that Huang began to take control. After rocking her foe with a crackling two-punch combo, she charged forward, and unleashed a steady stream of punches as the round wore down. Remarkably, however, an incredibly tough Badr survived to the first intermission.

Huang continued to display her stand-up game in the second stanza. When she began to land, Badr once again leaned on her wrestling. But after another failed takedown attempt, she finally succeeded in grounding the affair.

Regrettably for the Egyptian, this long-awaited takedown would actually spell disaster, as a crafty Huang locked up a triangle choke from the bottom, and coaxed the tap at the 3:09 mark of round two.

Huang returned to Malaysia in September 2016, and battled with India’s Jeet Toshi at ONE: UNBREAKABLE WARRIORS. That night, she proved to be unbreakable herself.

Toshi, a seven-time Indian national kickboxing champion, wasted no time getting to work with her striking prowess. She pressed forward early in the first frame, and blasted Huang with a salvo of snapping strikes. But “Lady GoGo” showed true grit, absorbing the strikes before firing back with a few big hits of her own.

Having tasted one another’s power, the two warriors eased back to a more measured approach. After a brief period of inactivity, Toshi unleashed a kick that would ultimately prove unwise.

With catlike reflexes, Huang caught the kick, and used it to drag her adversary to the cage floor. It was there where she began to showcase the skills that have made her one of the most feared submission specialists in the women’s atomweight division.

After dodging a brief omoplata attempt from Toshi, Huang patiently climbed around her opponent’s guard. From there, she hopped into full mount, where she promptly applied an arm-triangle choke, squeezed like a boa constrictor, and earned herself a first-round submission victory.

Huang’s most unforgettable triumph occurred at ONE: AGE OF DOMINATION in December 2016, coincidentally in Manila, when she took on Iniong’s Team Lakay stablemate, April Osenio.

Although Huang earned the victory in this bout, Osenio gave her all she could handle in the opening frame, as she leaned on her infamous wushu striking to land dozens of thudding strikes to the head and body.

Even when she completed a slick trip, and dragged the battle to the mat, Osenio remained dangerous, as she threatened with a guillotine that had Huang in trouble.

Despite this tough first round, Huang returned bravely for the second. There, she finally found her groove. She locked up the clinch, and completed a beautiful outside trip takedown.

With the contest once again glued to the canvas, Huang expertly floated from position to position, deftly hunting for the submission. Osenio was able to survive for a period of time, but Huang eventually found the submission she was looking for.

She secured a jaw-dropping gogoplata with just over 30 seconds remaining in the second stanza, forcing the Filipina to tap. The victory earned Huang the Submission Of The Year 2016, as well as the nickname, “Lady GoGo.”

On 20 April, she meets Iniong, and will look to recreate her success against Osenio in Manila.
