In a classic India versus Pakistan matchup, Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju scored a key victory at ONE: EDGE OF GREATNESS in November 2019.

The Singapore-based Indian displayed his wrestling advantage in the first round, but Furqan “The Lion” Cheema was able to remain calm, defend, and make it to the second frame.

As Cheema tried to get his striking going, Raju put him on the canvas with a well-timed double leg takedown. “The Kerala Krusher” then wasted no time in moving to his opponent’s back, where his right arm snuck under the Pakistan fighter’s chin. Next, he tightened up the rear-naked choke and got the tap.

Raju’s adopted hometown exploded in joy as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt secured his second consecutive victory in The Home Of Martial Arts. He looks to replicate that success against Amir Khan on 9 October.

“The Indian Notorious” Roshan Mainam made his promotional debut at ONE: MASTERS OF FATE last November, and he made it look easy with a quick submission at 3:22 of the first round.

He got there by executing a takedown against Khon Sichan and then advancing to mount with dominant grappling.

Once on top, Mainam dropped hard elbows, which forced Sichan to lift his left arm in an attempt to defend. When he did, the Evolve standout snatched it and quickly torqued the appendage with an Americana, forcing the Cambodian to submit.

After a remarkable debut performance, Mainam will continue his pursuit of greatness in the flyweight division at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES.

Liu Hands Siregar His First Loss

Everything was going right for Elipitua “The Magician” Siregar entering ONE: CLASH OF LEGENDS in February. The Indonesian National Wrestling Champion was undefeated and looking to announce himself as a serious player.

However, Liu Peng Shuai had other plans.

For more than two rounds, the athletes battled back and forth, although it appeared that Siregar might have been nearing a decision nod if he could make it to the final horn. Instead, a last-ditch effort from Liu earned a last-minute win.

“The Magician” defended a takedown from Liu to assume the top position, but he was swept by the ONE Hefei Flyweight Tournament Champion. The Chinese athlete then locked in a kimura, and after an attempt to scramble out, Liu found the angle to force the tap.

Liu now returns on 9 October in an attempt to continue his winning ways in a flyweight battle against the aforementioned Mainam.

McLaren Surprises In Debut

Reece “Lightning” McLaren’s ONE debut was a testament to athletes always staying ready because they never know when their number will be called. On short notice at ONE: SPIRIT OF CHAMPIONS in December 2015, he seized his opportunity to jump onto the global stage.

The Australian used his strikes in the first two rounds to wear down Mark “Mugen” Striegl. Living up to his nickname of “Lightning,” McLaren was the fresher and quicker fighter when the third round began.

The Potential Unlimited Mixed Martial Arts star then attacked with a guillotine choke as “Mugen” tried to get the bout to the floor. Although the submission was unsuccessful, McLaren rained down ground-and-pound from the mount position.

Striegl rolled away from the strikes but left himself open for a rear-naked choke. The Aussie took that chance to secure and squeeze the choke, which forced the tap and allowed “Lightning” to kick-start his career on the global stage with a bang.

On 9 October, McLaren meets the man below in the co-main event.

In July 2019, Aleksi “The Giant” Toivonen debuted at ONE: MASTERS OF DESTINY in a manner that immediately sent shockwaves through the flyweight division.

Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa managed the distance well with his striking early on, but Toivonen remained patient. That calm demeanor paid off when the Finn landed a right leg kick that took Fujisawa off his feet and made him react quickly with a single-leg takedown attempt.

The Evolve flyweight defended and slickly took the back while trapping Fujisawa’s left arm in the process.

With his opponent only able to defend with one arm, “The Giant” easily secured the rear-naked choke. The Japanese athlete had little choice but to tap out with no possible escape available.

Toivonen, a three-time IBJJF No-Gi European Champion, put the division on notice with this dazzling display of just how quickly he can end any fight.
