3 Things To Know About Rodtang Jitmuangnon’s Next Muay Thai Opponent, Edgar Tabares

Mexican Muay Thai fighter Edgar Tabares

Edgar Tabares is jumping into the deep end for the biggest fight of his life.

At ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on May 5, he will challenge the seemingly unstoppable ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, for the gold.

What’s more, the Mexican standout will be making his promotional debut at ONE Championship’s historic first live event on U.S. soil.

Tabares has been given a massive opportunity, to say the very least.

Before he makes the walk to the Circle at the 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado, fans are naturally dying to know more about the hard-charging challenger who hopes to shock the world.

With that in mind, here are three quick facts about Tabares.

#1 He’s Mexico’s First WBC Muay Thai International Champion

The 28-year-old is poised to earn the reputation of Mexico’s finest-ever Muay Thai fighter if he hasn’t already.

In July 2022, Tabares became the first Mexican athlete to win a WBC Muay Thai International Championship when he defeated Italy’s Carmelo Ragona for the organization’s vacant super featherweight title.

That accomplishment boosted his profile and earned him international acclaim. Moreover, the title-winning performance garnered attention from ONE Championship officials, who were impressed enough to put the talented striker in a World Title fight on a massive card against a global superstar in his Circle debut.

#2 He Owns Multiple Regional Championship Belts

While the WBC belt might be his biggest achievement so far, Tabares’ resume is filled with other noteworthy accomplishments.

The Mexican scrapper is also a Triumphant Combat Sports Champion. The California-based Muay Thai promotion has brought up other elite strikers, including ONE superstars Eddie Abasolo and Liam Harrison.

Tabares is also a titleholder in his home country, where he owns a Budo Sento belt – an honor he earned competing in 4-ounce gloves.

#3 He Owns A Muay Thai Academy

More than just a world-class competitor, the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title challenger is a teacher and business owner.

Tabares’ Muay Thai academy, Kings and Priests Muay Thai, is churning out talented fighters who could become the stars of tomorrow.
