Angela Lee Wants Trilogy With Xiong Jing Nan, Another Shot At ‘Champ-Champ Status’
Following a lengthy hiatus to start her family, Angela Lee returned to the Circle and successfully defended her ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title with a courageous performance at ONE X.
“Unstoppable” submitted surging #1 contender Stamp Fairtex in the second round of their main event clash last month, and after such an impressive comeback, she’s motivated to continue taking names.
The longtime atomweight queen will likely put her gold on the line again this year, but she’s also eying a trilogy bout against old rival Xiong Jing Nan for the chance to grab a second World Championship strap.
Lee said:
“I definitely want to capture the strawweight belt, so I’d love to fight Xiong again and step up to strawweight and try to capture that champ-champ status.
“Also, there’s a lot of atomweights in the division now, so I’d love to keep defending my title, but I’d like to see the strawweight division grow, just like the atomweight division has grown.”
Lee and Xiong have already split a pair of epic World Title fights, with both athletes earning dramatic fifth-round finishes.
In March 2019, Xiong retained her strawweight gold with a knockout of “Unstoppable.” And in their rematch later that year, Lee submitted the Chinese icon via rear-naked choke to defend her atomweight belt.
There’s definitely a score to be settled, and the Hawaii resident feels confident that she can claim the series-winning victory in a rubber match.
Lee said:
“I think that I have grown a lot more in these past few years and made a lot more improvements than she has, and I think it can show in our performances. So definitely, when we match up again, it’s going to be a different story, and I think everyone is eager to see it.”
Angela Lee Ready To Defend Gold Against Ham Seo Hee
While Angela Lee is hoping to become a two-division World Champion, she knows Ham Seo Hee is coming for a ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title shot.
“Hamzzang” has defeated #3-ranked contender Denice Zamboanga in back-to-back contests, and after her own victory at ONE X, a future matchup with Lee was confirmed by ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
For her part, “Unstoppable” is impressed with the #2-ranked South Korean and looks forward to a showdown in the Circle.
She said:
“I would love to fight Seo. I think that she has done a great job. I think right now it’s clear that she would be the next fight.”
Ham’s latest victory over Zamboanga was on the same card as Lee’s win over Stamp, so the latter got a firsthand look at the action.
And after watching “Hamzzang” earn a gutsy unanimous decision, the Singaporean-American expects an exciting, hard-fought World Title tilt.
“Unstoppable” added:
“It was a tough fight in [Ham’s] last one. She competed on the same card as me, and I think she did all the right things to get the win.
“She’s tough. She fought through some adversity and found a way to win, so I think our skills match up really nicely. She’s an MMA veteran, so it would be great to fight her.”
