In the night’s second preliminary bout inside the Stadium Istora, the Evolve product faced a stiff test against a rising Chinese star with three wins in The Home Of Martial Arts, but he made this featherweight match-up look easy.
“Puccibull” wasted no time in pushing forward to press his rival against the fence and negate any threat of a takedown against him. Though he absorbed some strikes, he was in total control.
Within seconds, he shifted his weight and tripped “White Dragon” hard onto the mat, where he immediately looked to pass guard.
Xie defended effectively with a butterfly guard at first, which forced the Brazilian to trap a leg to create room and advance position.
However, with the 26-year-old Chinese athlete offering stubborn resistance, he changed course by backing up and wrapping his left arm around his rival’s neck.
With the arm-in guillotine choke secured, the 28-year-old jumped guard to squeeze tight. It looked like Xie might be able to slip his neck out, but “Puccibull” held on and put him to sleep after just 56 seconds.
Pucci’s fourth win under the ONE Championship banner improved his overall record to 6-3 and kept his 100 percent finishing rate intact.
