One of the bouts to watch is the main event match between Gunther “The Beast” Kalunda (5-0) and Carlos “Carlao” Prates (8-4) in the welterweight division.
Kalunda will arrive in “The Lion City” from Johannesburg, South Africa as the undefeated welterweight champion of Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) – the biggest mixed martial arts organization in Africa.
However, he has left his home continent just for a chance to reach ONE Championship via OWS. That is a sign of big things to come in The Home Of Martial Arts’ developmental league in the months ahead.
He will not have an easy ride against a fantastic striker in Prates, though. The Brazilian is a representative of Phuket Top Team who has competed in Thailand’s top Muay Thai stadiums and is coming off a 28-second knockout victory.
There will be plenty of returning heroes at the event, too, including in another contest to keep your eyes on – Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg (8-2-1, 2-1 in OWS) versus Chan Samart (2-4, 1-1 in OWS) at bantamweight.
Mongolia’s Shinechagtga has some of the best hands in mixed martial arts thanks to his background as an Olympic boxer. He has already proved that in the OWS ring with a 58-second knockout of Akuri Ronda and a second-round finish of Ali Motamed at ONE Warrior Series 4 in February.
His opponent should test his striking skills with his Khun Khmer style, which has already brought one tremendous knockout victory over Detchadin Sornsirisupathin in the first OWS event last year.
The full lineup for OWS 5 is listed below.
