Full Card Announced For Guangzhou's ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS
ONE Championship will break new ground when it returns to Guangzhou, China.
The promotion is scheduled to hold its upcoming spectacle ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium on Saturday, 7 July.
In the main event, the first female ONE Super Series World Champion will be crowned, as two of the best female kickboxers on the planet will face off for the gold.
That headlining act will be joined by nine more bouts across mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and Muay Thai, with the world’s best martial artists aiming to make their mark on the global stage.
Here is the complete card for ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS.
A ONE Super Series Women’s World Title Bout
The first women’s bout in ONE Super Series history will be a high-stakes affair, as a new World Champion will be crowned in Guangzhou’s main event.
Thailand’s Yodcherry Sityodtong will take on China’s Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang for the inaugural ONE Super Series Kickboxing Atomweight World Championship.
Despite being just 19 years old, Yodcherry is a multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion who has also compiled an outstanding professional record of 81-18-1 – with 30 bouts and only one loss coming in matches against men.
Besides training out of the famous Sityodtong camp in her homeland, she also hones her skills at Singapore’s Evolve MMA, and will make her promotional debut in the world’s largest martial arts organization.
Standing opposite Yodcherry is Chuang, is a three-time WAKO Kickboxing Champion who trains out of the Iron Boxing gym in Taichung.
The 23-year-old has defeated some huge names on the way to a professional record of 16-5, and will be aiming to capture her first World Title in her ONE debut.
A Clash Between Flyweight Contenders
In a bout that could determine the next ONE Flyweight World Title challenger, top contender Reece “Lightning” McLaren welcomes Tatsumitsu “The Sweeper” Wada to ONE.
Since dropping from bantamweight to flyweight, McLaren has been on a roll. The 26-year-old Australian is riding a two-bout win streak, having most recently defeated Gianni Subba via arm-triangle choke in the main event of ONE: VISIONS OF VICTORY in March.
Standing in the other corner is DEEP Flyweight Champion Wada, who is set to make his bow in the ONE cage on the back of an incredible eight-bout win streak.
A victory for either man could punch their ticket for a shot at the ONE Flyweight World Championship, which is now owned by Geje Eustaquio after his victory at ONE: PINNACLE OF POWER on Saturday, 23 June.
World Champion Strikers Are Set To Clash
Two pairs of World Champions will collide in ONE Super Series bouts in Guangzhou.
The first ONE Super Series bout on 7 July is a Muay Thai bantamweight encounter between Saemapetch Fairtex and Deividas “The Savage Sitsongpeenong” Danyla.
Saemapetch is the latest southpaw superstar from Thailand’s Fairtex team to bring his talents to the ONE cage, along with his phenomenal 116-14-1 record. The 23-year-old is a MTGP Welterweight World Champion, and looks to make a strong first impression with a victory over an impressive opponent.
Danyla hails from Europe, but also trains in “The Land of Smiles” at the Sitsongpeenong gym in Phuket. The 26-year-old is a Lithuanian Muay Thai Champion who carries a 46-10 record into his ONE debut.
Also, in a kickboxing contest between heavyweight knockout arists, Andre “The Giant” Meunier will face Ibrahim “Mr Cool” El Bouni. They will compete at a catch weight of 105 kilograms.
Meunier, a native of Melbourne, Australia, is a four-time Kickboxing World Champion who will enter the arena with a record of 42-7.
El Bouni is a Moroccan who competes out of the kickboxing heartland of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He has amassed a similarly impressive 36-6-1 pro slate, and captured the A1WCC Kickboxing World Title along the way.
A Compelling Atomweight Bout
A showdown between top atomweights promises to get fans off their seats early in the night, as Brazil’s Istela Nunes meets the Philippines’ Gina “Conviction” Iniong.
Nunes, a two-time Muay Thai World Champion, will return to action for the first time since her challenge for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title in May 2017, which was her only defeat as a professional.
She faces a stiff challenge, as Iniong has tasted defeat just once in four ONE bouts so far. The six-time Philippine Wushu Champion is coming off an impressive win against former world title challenger, Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang.
A victory for either contender is sure to throw their name right back into the World Title mix.
Five More Captivating Matches
Local fans will also have some of their national heroes to support.
In the bantamweight division, Harbin’s Fu Chang Xin will make his ONE debut against fellow countryman and Changsha native “The Demolition Man” Tang De Pan.
That will be joined by a catch weight contest between Xi’an’s Zhao Zhi Kang and Cambodian Top Team’s Meas Meul.
A trio of prelims complete the ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS lineup, as “The Terminator” Sunoto faces Shuya “Stealth” Kamikubo, Peng Xue Wen takes on Eddey “The Clown” Kalai, and Adrian “Papua Badboy” Mattheis returns against Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan.
