Gasanov, Miado, Grandjean Score Highlight-Reel Finishes In MMA Fights At ONE On Prime Video 3
The global fan base had been looking forward to the three World Title bouts at ONE on Prime Video 3 this past Friday night, but the trio of MMA fights on the undercard delivered all the thrills and each contest ended in highlight-reel fashion.
There were a pair of TKOs on the lead card and a decisive first-round submission from a talented promotional newcomer on the main card.
Here’s a quick recap of the MMA action from the ONE on Prime Video 3 undercard.
Gasanov Debuts In Style, Chokes Out Kim
Shamil “The Cobra” Gasanov didn’t take long to announce his arrival in ONE Championship’s featherweight division.
The Russian star utilized his top-level grappling skills to submit #2-ranked contender “The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong in the first round, living up to his promise to finish the South Korean early.
Gasanov started off aggressively, putting the heavy-handed South Korean on the back foot and then shooting for a double-leg takedown. “The Fighting God” managed to defend well, but the Russian quickly transitioned to his back and threw him to the canvas.
True to his nickname, “The Cobra” quickly wrapped his arms and legs around his helpless foe and secured a vice-like rear-naked choke to earn the win at the 2:09 mark of the opening frame.
The impressive performance saw the Peresvet Fight Team athlete push his record to 13-0. It also earned him a cool US$50,000 bonus – and served as a stark warning to everyone in the featherweight rankings.
Miado Batters Williams, Gets Fourth Straight Finish
In the final bout of the lead card, Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado ripped through #5-ranked contender “Mini T” Danial Williams in their battle of strawweight knockout artists to add another finish to his ever-growing streak.
Each man landed heavy punches early in the first round, but after a flurry of strikes, the Filipino star brought the action to the canvas. “Mini T” defended himself well, though, and worked back to his feet with just over a minute remaining in the stanza.
From there, the strikers traded blows at a furious pace. Miado, however, dropped Williams with a crisp punch followed by a stinging knee. Miraculously, the Aussie-Thai standout survived that barrage and held on to the end of the stanza.
“The Jaguar” continued to find a home for his punches when the second frame kicked off, and he continued to test his opponent’s seemingly granite chin and ironclad will to fight.
In the opening seconds of the third stanza, however, Miado pieced together a beautiful boxing combination that sent “Mini T” crashing to the canvas. Referee Herb Dean intervened at this point to stop the bout and hand “The Jaguar” a TKO victory.
Now riding a four-fight winning streak with four straight finishes, Miado has certainly done enough to re-enter the divisional rankings.
Grandjean Crumbles Bivins To Score A First-Round KO
Noelle “Lil’ Monkey” Grandjean might be a judo black belt, but she leaned on her striking to impress in her ONE Championship debut, dispatching fellow promotional newcomer Lea “First Moon” Bivins with a devastating body shot in the opening round of their 117-pound catchweight bout.
Bivins started aggressively, pressing forward into the clinch. But the French-Thai warrior was ready to showcase the power of her judo, and she promptly threw her foe to the mat.
The contest eventually returned to the feet, but Grandjean continued to work her American rival over. Bivins looked visibly fatigued as the Tiger Muay Thai representative peppered her with shots to the legs and body. And soon, “Lil’ Monkey” landed the death blow – a powerful cross to the liver.
“First Moon” winced in pain and appeared to wave off her own fight, causing referee Herb Dean to stop the contest at the 4:01 mark of the opening frame.
With the TKO victory, Grandjean improved her career record to 4-0 and was even awarded a US$50,000 performance bonus for her efforts.
