Eustaquio – who lost to Tauru by first-round submission at ONE: AGE OF DOMINATION in December 2016 – was determined to redeem himself in his second outing against the man from Finland.
In round one he defended stoutly on the ground following an early takedown from Tauru, who, trying to imitate what he had done in their first bout, spent most of the round searching for a submission.
The complexity of the bout changed in round two as Eustaquio settled into his striking rhythm and connected with straight punches and low leg kicks.
When “Dynamite” attempted a jumping push kick in response, the former ONE World Champion caught his leg and swept Tauru to the canvas.
The former CWFC World Champion simply had no answer to the Baguio City native’s striking excellence as the local hero dominated the second round.
Knowing he needed to push the pace to knock Eustaquio out of his comfort zone, Tauru came out for the third round looking to close the distance on his opponent.
But his increased aggression eventually proved his undoing. “Gravity” loaded up on his strikes and dropped his opponent with a spinning back kick that saw his heel connect with Tauru’s liver.
Referee Kemp Cheng stopped the bout at 2:11 of round three, bringing the Team Lakay representative’s record to 13-8.
