Grigorian, Matsushima, Tonon, More Added To ONE: BIG BANG
ONE Championship plans to kick off the final month of 2020 in style.
The world’s largest martial arts organization will bring its next live card, ONE: BIG BANG, to the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and the headline attraction certainly lives up to the card’s powerful namesake.
In the main event, ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia will defend his coveted belt against Dutch-Turkish juggernaut Murat “The Butcher” Aygun.
Those heavy hitters may be taking the spotlight, but the undercard is stacked with several top contenders, highly-anticipated promotional debuts, and female warriors looking to secure a spot in the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix in 2021.
The co-main event features former ONE World Title challenger and #3-ranked featherweight contender Koyomi “Moushigo” Matsushima continuing his march back to a championship opportunity.
Matsushima, who owns a 12-4 record, had a hot start to life in The Home Of Martial Arts. He knocked out former ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov in September 2018 and then dominated “Pretty Boy” Kwon Won Il en route to a unanimous decision victory in June 2019.
Although he fell to then-featherweight king Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen two months later, the Japanese star picked up the pieces and knocked out “The Fighting God” Kim Jae Woong in his next outing this past February.
The heavy-handed Japanese grappler intends to build off that victory, but he could run into some trouble when he meets Garry “The Lion Killer” Tonon in Singapore.
Tonon is one of the biggest names from the submission grappling circuit.
The American, who is a member of the revered Danaher Death Squad, built a 64-23 competition record and became a multiple-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu World Champion along the way.
After flirting with the idea of competing in mixed martial arts for years, Tonon finally took the plunge, began developing his all-around game, and made his long-awaited debut in the all-encompassing sport in March 2018.
Since then, he has finished every single opponent who has stood across from him in the Circle, including established veteran Yoshiki Nakahara via heel hook in 55 seconds back in May 2019. That also led him to being named the #5-ranked contender in the featherweight division.
Tonon will face his toughest challenge yet in mixed martial arts on 4 December, but if he emerges victorious, he could position himself for a run at the new ONE Featherweight World Champion, Thanh Le.
In addition to that thrilling co-main event showdown, ONE: BIG BANG will feature another high-stakes battle between top contenders, as #2-ranked flyweight contender Danny “The King” Kingad meets #3-ranked Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov.
Also, the show will feature the promotional debuts of global superstars Marat Grigorian, Amir Aliakbari, Islam Abasov, and Ivan Kondratev.
Finally, undefeated wrestling icon Ritu “The Indian Tigress” Phogat will continue her campaign to be in the ONE Atomweight World Grand Prix when she meets Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres in the night’s opening contest.
Following the success of ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, ONE: BIG BANG will continue ONE’s partnership with the Singapore government to pilot the return of live international sports productions.
ONE: BIG BANG includes 250 in-person “Superfan” ticket packages priced at $188 SGD each, which come with premium socially distanced seating and exclusive ONE merchandise worth over $80 SGD.
