‘He’s Good At Talking Cocky But Not At Fighting’ – Superbon Responds To Tang Kai’s MMA Callout
Superbon Singha Mawynn thinks Tang Kai’s mouth is writing checks that his skills can’t cash.
Although the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion is busy preparing to defend his belt against Tayfun Ozcan at ONE on Prime Video 2 this Friday, he’s heard Tang’s callouts and would be happy to oblige in the future.
Superbon isn’t fazed by the prospect either, as he believes the newly crowned featherweight MMA king isn’t all that dangerous.
With that in mind, the pound-for-pound superstar is open to facing the Chinese sensation after he deals with rivals in the all-striking divisions.
The Thai said:
“Frankly, I don’t think [Tang is] good at all. His game is nothing. His fighting style is boring. He just ran around the Circle. That’s it. He is good at talking cocky but not good at fighting at all. I am more than happy to fight with him in MMA.
“Certainly, MMA is scary to me as a sport, but if my opponent is Tang Kai, it is not scary to me at all. He is not someone to be scared of. However, he has to wait for me to clear out in kickboxing and Muay Thai first, and we’ll see each other, for sure.”
Although the featherweight kickboxing division features some dangerous contenders, Superbon’s interest has been piqued by the idea of a mixed-rules fight or an MMA debut.
The 32-year hasn’t started any formal training for the all-around sport just yet, but he doesn’t think it would take long to get up to speed.
The Singha Mawynn Muay Thai representative said:
“MMA and special rules sound fun and fresh to me. Previously, my goal was to beat everyone in the kickboxing division, but now I think MMA isn’t that hard.
“My striking is good enough. I just need to practice more ground techniques. In the past, there have been many kickboxers who transitioned to MMA and became champions. I am confident I can do that, too.
“If ONE offers me to fight Tang Kai, I’m happy for that. I think I could do it if I have a few months to train beforehand.”
Superbon Ready To Make Impact In The U.S.
Superbon Singha Mawynn established himself as perhaps the most dangerous kickboxer in the world with recent wins over Marat Grigorian, Giorgio Petrosyan, and Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong.
Now, he views his return at ONE on Prime Video 2 as the perfect platform to showcase this dominance to the United States audience.
With the event airing live in North American primetime on a massive streaming platform, the Thai star believes he can convert new fans to his exciting style when they witness his World Title battle with Tayfun Ozcan.
Moreover, Superbon has toured the country teaching seminars, so he knows there’s a huge market of hungry combat sports fans who could fall deeper in love with the striking disciplines.
He explained:
“For me, this is a good opportunity to expand my fan base. Americans already love combat sports like Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA. I used to go do seminars in the U.S., and I realized that there is a huge fan base there.
Every time I go to clubs or restaurants, they always watch evening sports programs, especially combat sports. So, this is a good chance to let them know what a real fight is.
I believe this event will make Americans more interested in kickboxing and Muay Thai because Prime is a huge platform in America. There are a large number of viewers. ONE is the biggest sports organization in Asia and the world, and they will witness the greatness of combat sports from us.”
