‘He’s Predictable’ – Superbon Not Worried About New World Title Challenger Tayfun Ozcan
Superbon Singha Mawynn is not fazed by the late change of opponent for his upcoming ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title defense.
Following the withdrawal of Grand Prix Champion Chingiz Allazov, the division’s reigning king will now take on #5 contender Tayfun Ozcan at ONE on Prime Video 2: Xiong vs. Lee III this Friday, September 30.
Although Superbon thinks Ozcan is one of the top strikers at featherweight, he also feels “Turbine” is cut from the same cloth as both Allazov and his most recent World Title challenger, Marat Grigorian.
With that in mind, the Thai doesn’t expect to tweak his strategy or prepare any differently for this co-main event clash in North American primetime.
The Singha Mawynn Muay Thai representative said:
“Of course, Tayfun is one of the best in this division. In fact, he is as good as Marat Grigorian or Chingiz Allazov, but I can fight with anyone in this division, so I have no concern about him at all.
“His attacks are fast. His damage power is probably lighter than Marat’s, but he’s faster than Marat. Overall, he is not much different from Marat or Chingiz. They have very similar styles.
“Nothing’s changed, and it doesn’t affect me at all. I almost don’t need to change anything in my game plan. I am ready for him.”
Of course, Superbon is also very familiar with Ozcan.
The reigning ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion expected to face the Dutch-Turkish striker at some point – it just came a little quicker than he anticipated.
And while “Turbine” is certainly an underdog in Friday’s clash, he’s won 14 of his last 15 fights, including a solid victory over Enriko Kehl last time out.
Superbon said of his upcoming challenger:
“Our fight is happening at the right time and place because I want to beat all top-five ranked contenders, and he is one of them.
“So, if it was not this time, someday I would have to fight him anyway, and now he has some good momentum – he had a good win streak for a while – so it’s a good matchup.”
Superbon Vows To Knock Out Tayfun Ozcan
Despite being known for his incredible conditioning, Tayfun Ozcan is stepping into a five-round World Title fight instead of the three-round match he was preparing for against Marat Grigorian.
For his part, Superbon knows that switch will be one hurdle for “Turbine” to overcome, but he also expects to overwhelm the challenger with his wide array of strikes.
The Thai said:
“I may take advantage of him in terms of five-round experience because I’ve prepared for five-round title fights, but he has not.
“I have more diverse weapons in my arsenal. He only has punches and leg kicks. If I can handle his leg kick, he will have no chance with me.”
The long list of tools at Superbon’s disposal makes him very difficult to prepare for – especially on late notice – but the reigning king doesn’t expect to have the same problem with Ozcan.
He has a good idea of what “Turbine” will try to do, and because of that, he has no doubt about the outcome.
Superbon added:
“I think he will use the same style with me like he always does. He always has the same pattern. He’s predictable, so it’s not hard for me to defend and beat him.
“He doesn’t have the ability to [stop me]. I’m sure I can do better than him. I will knock him within round three, period.”
