‘I’ll Stop Him’ – Freddie Haggerty Aims To Knock Out Jordan Estupinan And Earn Contract At ONE 170
British Muay Thai prodigy Freddie Haggerty feels prepared for whatever promotional newcomer Jordan Estupinan throws at him on January 24 at ONE 170.
This Friday in Asia primetime, the exciting young strikers will throw down in a flyweight Muay Thai scrap to open up the blockbuster event at a sold-out Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand,
As the younger brother to reigning ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty, Freddie came to ONE Championship surrounded by high expectations. He’s thoroughly backed up the hype so far, delivering highlight-reel finishes in all three of his appearances.
His opponent, meanwhile, is also a brother to an established ONE star. Estupinan is twins with undefeated phenom Johan “Panda Kick” Estupinan, who will also compete at ONE 170.
Haggerty admits that it’s been difficult to find footage of his Colombian foe, but he’s confident that Jordan will fight with the same wildly aggressive style as his brother.
The Brit told onefc.com:
“We’re always very well-prepared. There isn’t much to see of [Estupinan] online, which isn’t great. But Jordan and Johan are twin brothers with the same trainer, so I don’t see them fighting much different. But I’m a fighter. I’ll adapt no matter what. I’ll be ready.”
Already a multiple-time British and European Muay Thai Champion before joining ONE, Haggerty is an undeniably elite talent with world-class technical skills.
While he knows that Estupinan will bring an onslaught of aggression on fight night, he’s certain that he’ll be able to weather the storm and take advantage of any openings:
“As long as I can shut him down, he’s going to have no method of fighting. His fighting style is very much like his brother’s.
“It’s one style, and that’s forward. So, if we can shut that down and beat him to every shot, it’s going to be a really hard night for him. They’ll throw anything from any stance, even off-stance. I think I can catch Jordan off-guard.”
Haggerty fully intends to keep his winning streak alive and score his fourth consecutive knockout at ONE 170.
In fact, he has a specific vision for how his showdown with Estupinan will play out:
“I think I’ll stop him. I think I’ll wear him down in the first and find the opportunity in the second round to stop him.”
Haggerty Thinks A Victory Will Secure Six-Figure Contract
Still just 20 years old, Freddie Haggerty has emerged as one of Muay Thai’s most dangerous rising stars. He knows that a victory over Jordan Estupinan would do wonders toward his next goal – earning a coveted six-figure contract and a spot on ONE’s global roster.
With three thrilling performances at ONE Friday Fights under his belt, he believes that a fourth win – this time up a weight class at flyweight – should punch his ticket:
“I believe if I go in there and make a huge statement and wipe Estupinan out, I believe I should get a contract. Purely because I’ve taken the fight around six weeks after my last fight, one weight above, on a huge show.”
For the hard-hitting Brit, there’s plenty on the line this Friday. A loss, he said, could force him to restart his journey toward ONE’s global roster once again.
With that in mind, fans should expect to see Haggerty fight like he’s in a must-win situation.
He added:
“I think it’s a bigger risk for me too because it’s his debut. Whereas if I lose, do I have to go back to ONE Friday Fights and work my way back up? I don’t want to do that. I want to be on the big shows. The risk should pay off this time, and I should get the contract.”
