‘I’m Not Scared To Fight In Any Range’ – Angela Lee Responds To BJJ Star Danielle Kelly

Angela Lee makes her way to the Circle at ONE X

ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee may be the most dominant MMA fighter in her weight class, but she’s open to testing her skills in other combat sports, including submission grappling.

The 26-year-old is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and a former Hawaii State Wrestling Champion, so it’s not surprising that she’s kept a close eye on ONE Championship’s quickly expanding grappling roster.

Meanwhile, one of the sport’s fastest-rising stars, Danielle Kelly, recently expressed interest in facing the atomweight MMA queen in a crossover bout – and even claimed that she would submit Lee within five minutes.

When asked about those comments, “Unstoppable” made it clear that she would be up for the challenge.

She said:

“I love grappling. I’m a big fan of it. Obviously, you can see it in my fights, that I’m very grappling-based. So, I would love to match up with Kelly. I think it’d be a great fight, and I think a lot of people would like to see that, too.”

Grappling has certainly been a key part of Lee’s success in MMA.

Eight of the Singaporean-American’s 11 career victories have come from various submissions, including rear-naked choke, armbar, and even a twister.

But above all, she knows that success in the all-around sport comes from training with the best athletes in a wide range of disciplines, and that gives her the confidence to battle any type of martial artist – even in their own specialty.

Lee told ONE Championship:

“I’m not scared to fight in any range. I’m very confident. MMA is the hardest job in the world because you got to be the best in the world in every single area, and that’s where I think me, my brother, and my family shine.

“We try to be very well-rounded mixed martial artists, box with world champion boxers, and grapple with world champion grapplers, so it’s no problem.”

Angela Lee Predicts She Would Finish Danielle Kelly In A Grappling Match

Since her professional MMA debut in May 2015, Angela Lee has always entered her fights with the intention to finish her opponents as quickly as possible.

It appears that mentality and style would carry over to other combat sports – including a submission grappling match with BJJ superstar Danielle Kelly.

Kelly recently stated that she would force Lee to tap out via leg lock or choke within five minutes, but the atomweight MMA queen has a different viewpoint.

“Unstoppable” added:

“I see it ending in me submitting her.

“For me, I mean, I’ve been fighting for a while now. And obviously, you hope for the best-case scenario. But one thing that I trust in myself is I always get the job done – and it doesn’t matter what amount of time it’ll take, but [it will] definitely [happen] before the round ends.”
