Janet “JT” Todd scored her first ONE Super Series win in style as she overwhelmed Wang Chin Long in a women’s atomweight kickboxing bout at ONE: WARRIORS OF LIGHT.

The IFMA Pan-American Muay Thai Champion utilized a simple but punishing formula to score a TKO finish in the second round on Friday, 10 May in Bangkok, Thailand.

The 18-year-old Chinese athlete began the bout at the Impact Arena with intent as she took aim with straight punches, but it did not take long for Todd to find a home for her counter strikes.

The American landed a left hook followed by a thudding right low kick in the opening moments, and that set the tone for the rest of the match.

Todd repeatedly used her jab and left hook to set up her low kicks as she went after Wang’s lead leg. The Iron Boxing Gym representative tried to fire back, but Todd was clearly the more powerful athlete and charged straight through the punches and front kicks.

“JT” knew that she could increase her intensity in round two, and she came out aggressively to pile pressure on her opponent. The Boxing Works representative kept up the same pattern and used punches from her lead hand to prime her kicks, and then started to target the body to wear Wang down, too.

The 33-year-old’s offense started to take its toll, and gaps began to appear in Wang’s defense. When her guard dropped, Todd saw the opportunity to aim high with her strikes.

First, a hook and low kick sent the Taichung City resident down to the canvas, and then a high kick rocked her for the second count from the referee.

Wang found her feet as the 10-second clapper sounded, but Todd’s finishing instinct did not allow her to make it to the bell. A final low kick landed to Wang’s damaged left leg, and the Chinese striker slumped to the canvas.

The third knockdown – in the final second of the second stanza – equaled an immediate TKO, and Todd deservedly opened her account in ONE Championship to take her overall professional record to 33-11.
