Jonathan Haggerty Teases Move To Mixed Martial Arts
Is former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan “The General” Haggerty planning to chase gold in another sport?
In a short video posted to his Instagram page on Wednesday, the ONE Super Series star proclaimed, “Watch out, MMA. I’m coming!”
Haggerty – whose father is a former professional mixed martial artist – started the video by showing his elite striking skills before smoothly changing levels for a takedown. “The General” then fired off some strong ground and pound, and finally locked in a triangle choke that showed his impressive repertoire of skills.
The sequence will undoubtedly capture the attention of ONE’s ranked flyweights, including ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes.
Already the promotion’s #3 flyweight Muay Thai contender, Haggerty has certainly been putting in the work. And if he does make the transition to mixed martial arts, he’d be an immediate threat in every bout given they always begin on the feet.
Interestingly, his recent foe and ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon, has also thrown his hat into the ring for future mixed martial arts battles.
Could a super-fight be in order, or was this just a tease from the Londoner? Regardless, it details Haggerty’s love for martial arts and provides fans with a potential glimpse into the future.
