Abelardo opened up with chopping leg kicks at the start of round one that landed with force on his Chinese rival inside the Istora Senayan.
The man from Longyun MMA fired back with his jab-cross and tried to impose his boxing attack, but he was outgunned by the powerful Kiwi, who blasted him with hard right hands.
“Tyson” found the mark with a thudding right elbow in the closing stages and dropped Jumayi onto the canvas, but he was able to close the distance and hold on until the bell.
Abelardo continued to show off the diversity of his striking as he took aim with a pair of high kicks to start round two. “A.J.” ate a clean shin to the head, but bit down on his mouthpiece and somehow stayed on his feet to fire back with punches.
“Tyson” looked for big hooks to the head and body, but Jumayi had some success with a firm jab to keep him at bay. However, as the contest entered the final frame, the Yining native had it all to do.
He showed the heart of a lion to keep firing back at his foe throughout the final five minutes, but Abelardo’s low kicks and left hooks to the body crushed his resistance. By the time the final bell rang, there could be only one winner on the judges’ scorecards, and the Fairtex representative had his hands raised.
“Tyson” improved his professional record to 19-6 and showed that his striking is good enough to compete with anybody in his division.
