Maurice Abevi Vs. Samat Mamedov Re-Booked For Lightweight MMA Clash At ONE 170
A hotly anticipated clash between two of MMA’s most dangerous finishers has been added to the star-studded lineup for ONE 170, which broadcasts live in Asia primetime from Bangkok’s Impact Arena on Friday, January 24.
That night, Swiss phenom Maurice Abevi will collide with undefeated Kazakhstani destroyer Samat Mamedov in a lightweight MMA contest that’s unlikely to see the judges’ scorecards.
The two rising stars were originally slated to face off at ONE 168: Denver this past September, but a late injury to Mamedov forced the bout off the card.
Still just 25 years old, the ultra-talented Abevi is already a three-fight veteran in the world’s largest martial arts organization.
The Swiss athlete arrived in ONE Championship back in April 2023 with an unblemished record and loads of hype behind him.
While he would drop a hard-fought and entertaining decision to Halil “No Mercy” Amir in his promotional debut, he has since bounced back with two consecutive wins, including a first-round TKO victory over Blake Cooper, to solidify himself as one of the division’s most exciting young talents.
Abevi’s high-paced, well-rounded game should make for fireworks when he meets Mamedov, a highly touted promotional newcomer.
A prodigiously gifted athlete, Mamedov has all the makings of a bona fide superstar with true World Champion potential.
The 26-year-old boasts a perfect 10-0 record, which includes six submissions and three knockouts across the tough-as-nails Eastern European MMA circuit. What’s more, all nine of his stoppage victories happened in the first round.
In short, fans won’t want to miss a second of this lightweight MMA clash when it goes down live in the Thai capital on January 24.
