Multiple-Time K-1 World Champion Takeru Segawa Signs With ONE Championship
Last year, ONE Championship signed the hottest free agent in the MMA world. Now, the promotion has done it again – this time, in the sport of kickboxing.
On Friday, April 28, multiple-time K-1 World Champion Takeru Segawa officially put pen to paper with the world’s largest martial arts organization.
The news was announced by ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong in a Facebook post:
“Japanese K1 Superstar Takeru Segawa has officially signed an exclusive multiple-fight deal with ONE! Without a doubt, ONE is home to the best of the best world champion fighters on the planet! Stay tuned for big news!”
Takeru has long been considered one of the greatest pound-for-pound kickboxers on the planet.
The near-flawless Japanese striker owns a stunning 41-3 record, with 24 of his victories coming via knockout.
In addition, he has won titles and grand prix trophies across three different weight classes. Takeru proudly owned the K-1 Super Bantamweight, Featherweight, and Super Featherweight World Championships.
For months, there had been growing speculation that Takeru would make his way to ONE Championship at some point.
The Japanese kickboxer had engaged in a war of words with ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the media.
In addition, he has been training at Boxing Works in California, which serves as the home gym of ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion Janet Todd and strawweight Muay Thai contender Jackie Buntan.
And on Friday, Takeru officially signed on the dotted line to compete in the promotion, where he will have no shortage of tough challenges in a variety of divisions.
A date has not been confirmed for Takeru’s promotional debut, so stay tuned to onefc.com for more details.
