ONE: HEAVY HITTERS Gets New Co-Main Event, Card Moves To 8 Fights
There have been some major last-minute changes to the lineup for ONE: HEAVY HITTERS on Friday, 14 January, including a new co-main event showdown.
Murat “The Butcher” Aygun was originally scheduled to challenge ONE Light Heavyweight Kickboxing World Champion Roman Kryklia for the gold in the evening’s second-last fight.
Aygun, however, has been forced to withdraw from the bout due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Due to this late-breaking development, Kryklia will not compete, and the match has been removed from the card.
Instead, the co-main event will feature a long-awaited battle between #1-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender Saemapetch Fairtex and Thai phenom Tawanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym.
Additionally, several other athletes have been forced to withdraw from their matchups due to COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
Muay Thai strikers Elias “The Sniper” Mahmoudi and Walter Goncalves, as well as mixed martial arts stars Leandro “Wolf” Ataides, Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado, and Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan will no longer compete on Friday.
As a result, the scheduled matchup between Mahmoudi and Goncalves has been scratched, while Ataides’ middleweight clash with Yushin “Thunder” Okami has been removed from the lineup.
Miado’s original opponent, Pancrase Flyweight Champion Senzo Ikeda, will now face off against Catalan’s original opponent, Elipitua “The Magician” Siregar, in a strawweight MMA contest.
