Rika Ishige Believes Her Hard Work Will Pay Off In Bangkok
Rika “Tiny Doll” Ishige’s return to action in ONE Championship is little more than a month away.
The Thai superstar will make her comeback in her hometown of Bangkok, Thailand, at ONE: KINGDOM OF HEROES on 6 October, after more than six months away from competition.
The event is set to be the biggest martial arts event in the history of Thailand, with ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong expecting more than 50 million Thais to watch live.
Ishige is set to be the sole women’s representative from her nation on the card. Speaking at an open workout at the Nakornloung Promotion Gym in the Thai capital, she told media from around the world how she had got to that position, and how excited she was to compete in front of her compatriots.
“Right now, martial arts is at a peak high in Thailand, and it’s all thanks to the amazing work we have put in over the past few years,” she said.
“ONE Championship has really focused on highlighting the beauty of Thai martial arts. It is my honor to help represent the women in this sport.”
Following a display on the pads, she also assessed her chances in October.
“I know I have a lot to work on with my skills, but I am hitting the gym hard every day, and I feel I have improved greatly as a martial artist. I can’t wait to show everyone what I have been doing.”
