From the opening bell, “Dragon Boy” circled Calim and tried to cut off the Indonesian’s movement.
The Indonesian karate champion threw punches in return, and an overhand right barely missed the Tokyo native. Unfortunately, this made Calim vulnerable for a takedown.
Sawada seized the opportunity and quickly wrestled “The Krauser” to the ground. Once there, he established top position and took Calim’s back, locked in a rear-naked choke, and forced the Han Academy/Indogym athlete to tap after just one minute of the first round.
“I was looking for a first-round submission, and I’m very happy about this performance,” said Sawada, who earned his first official victory in ONE Championship.
Excited about his performance, the 23-year-old believes he has much more to show fans when the opportunity arrives.
“I want to compete with top athletes, and I am aiming to get another victory soon,” Sawada said.
The Evolve Fight Team representative announced his arrival to The Home Of Martial Arts in style and impressed everyone with his wrestling and grappling skills.
With the win – his third consecutive submission following a pair of finishes on Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series – Sawada improved his overall record to 12-4-1.
