Stamp Fairtex Predicts Xiong Jing Nan Will Beat Angela Lee In World Title Trilogy Fight
“The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan and “Unstoppable” Angela Lee have split a pair of epic World Title fights, and it’s hard to pick between them ahead of their trilogy bout on Friday, September 30.
However, fellow ONE superstar Stamp Fairtex has some thoughts on the matchup at ONE on Prime Video 2, where Lee will challenge Xiong for the ONE Women’s Strawweight World Title live in U.S. primetime.
The Thai striker can speak from a place of personal experience.
After all, she challenged Lee for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title in March after the latter returned from a long break surrounding the birth of her daughter.
And although she came up short in that exciting clash, Stamp thinks the atomweight queen might have some trouble keeping up with Xiong’s pace at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
She said:
“While this is Angela’s second fight after she returned from childbirth, in our last fight, I noticed that her cardio was still a bit off.
“Xiong Jing Nan has been more active in the Circle than Angela in recent years, so I think this is one of her advantages.”
Both previous encounters between Lee and Xiong were closely contested until the very end.
In March 2019, Xiong scored a fifth-round TKO victory over the Singaporean-American, who was stepping up in weight to challenge for the women’s strawweight gold.
Fans then witnessed the reverse seven months later, as Lee earned a dramatic submission win over “The Panda” to defend her atomweight belt.
With Lee now taking her second shot at two-division supremacy, Stamp believes Xiong’s extra power in the higher weight class will make the difference.
The Thai said:
“I think Xiong will still beat Angela in the strawweight division because this is her natural weight and her own belt. She definitely trains hard to defend her title.
“Xiong’s punches are fast and heavy. I think she can handle Angela with those strikes. I think the game will go to Xiong Jing Nan.”
Stamp Fairtex Discusses Potential Bout With Xiong Jing Nan
Strawweight queen Xiong Jing Nan recently stated that she would be interested in squaring off with ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Champion Stamp Fairtex inside the Circle.
Stamp, who’s previously held ONE World Titles in kickboxing and Muay Thai, is honored to be on the Chinese MMA star’s radar.
But for now, she says their match would have to be contested in her current division.
The Fairtex representative stated:
“I’m happy that she sees me as her potential rival. It means she might see something in me and look at me as a good opponent. I’m happy to fight with the best like her.
“I have lost weight from my hard training. It’s hard for me to gain weight to [get to the] strawweight division right now. I can eat more and make weight to fight with her, but it will make me sluggish in the Circle. But if one day I feel like I’m satisfied with atomweight division, I might go up to strawweight because my body can still grow.”
Although it’s still only a theoretical matchup, there’s no doubt the global fan base would love to witness it given the aggressive striking of both athletes.
For her part, Stamp agrees it would be an interesting clash of styles between their elite – but very different – stand-up repertoires.
She explained:
“No one [would have] an advantage or disadvantage in this game. [Xiong] specializes in boxing, so she will use her fast footwork to get close to me. And I have to keep the distance between me and her by kicking.”
