The Stars Of ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST Face Off In Shanghai
The leading stars of ONE: LEGENDARY QUEST faced off ahead of this weekend’s monumental 14-bout card at the Baoshan Arena in Shanghai, China.
Two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex will put her ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Title on the line against Alma Juniku in the main event on Saturday, 15 June.
Stamp defeated “Killer Bee” Kai Ting Chuang in her promotional debut to take the ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Title, and then made history by winning the division’s inaugural Muay Thai belt against Janet “JT” Todd in February.
The 21-year-old Thai superstar will make her first World Title defense against the surging Australian, and she is excited to put on a show for the Chinese fans.
“My opponent this Saturday night is fast and aggressive. She likes to put a lot of pressure on her opponents, and moves with speed,” offered the Fairtex Training Center representative.
“I will try to put the pressure on her as well. I want to give the fans an exciting show.”
Juniku, who is just 18 years old, is already a WBC and IPCC Muay Thai World Champion with an impressive 24-4 record to her credit.
The Australian phenom takes the step up to the global stage on Saturday night and meets the toughest opponent of her career, but she is ready for the challenge ahead and wants to prove that she belongs in the world’s largest martial arts organization.
“I am excited for this Saturday night’s main event. I’m physically and mentally ready for anything. On the biggest stage of ONE Championship, I want to introduce myself and what I’m all about,” the Logan City native said.
“I am prepared to go toe-to-toe with Stamp. She’s a great champion — aggressive and with very good technique. But I’m strong and I’m fast, and I like to trade shots. I’m not afraid to mix it up.”
The stakes are high, and both athletes will bring their best in order to get their hand raised and have the belt wrapped around their waist in China.
This bodes well for the fans, who should expect a fast-paced, all-action thriller on Saturday night.
Asian mixed martial arts legend Yoshihiro “Sexy Yama” Akiyama also faced off against Agilan “Alligator” Thani ahead of their massive welterweight contest at Yunspace in Shanghai.
Akiyama returns following a three-and-a-half year layoff, but he is motivated by the thought of facing a young, hungry “Alligator.” Thani knows this a huge opportunity for himself, too, as he looks to break back into the ONE Welterweight World Title picture.
With nine mixed martial arts contests and five ONE Super Series battles booked for this weekend’s card, there is plenty to look forward to for the thousands in attendance at the Baoshan Arena, and the potential 2.6 billion viewers watching live around the world.
