‘This Fight Is Going To Be Very Different’ – Superbon Plans To Turn Tables On Tawanchai In World Title Rematch

On January 24, ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon will take his second shot at defending ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai in the main event of ONE 170,

Set to go down live in Asia primetime in front of a sold-out crowd at Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, that blockbuster matchup comes a little over a year after the pair’s first unforgettable encounter.

In that first meeting, Superbon pushed the titleholder to his absolute limit, finding plenty of success with solid counter-striking and crispy boxing technique. But ultimately, it was Tawanchai who walked away with a narrow majority decision win and his 26 pounds of gold safely in tow.

Since then, Superbon has claimed the featherweight kickboxing belt and defeated “Smokin” Jo Nattawut to establish himself as the #1-ranked featherweight Muay Thai contender.

He’s also been working tirelessly to close the gap against Tawanchai, telling onefc.com:

“Since the previous fight [with Tawanchai] to today, it’s been a year I’ve been in training. My stamina and power have improved. My skills have been better and more precise. I can feel that this fight is going to be very different.”

Indeed, fresh off his first-round starching of Nattawut, the 34-year-old Thai looks to be in the best form of his decorated career.

He has carefully studied his first battle with Tawanchai and identified specific areas where he needs to modify his game plan. But some aspects – like the near-decade difference in age between World Champion and challenger – remain the same.

While Superbon admitted that Tawanchai’s youth will help him in certain ways, he was quick to point out that with age comes valuable experience:

“He has one advantage, as he’s younger, and he can recover faster. In that one-minute break in between rounds, he recovers faster than I do because I’m older. While I have an advantage in my experience, skills, preciseness, knowing when to tone things up and down.

“With the more experience I have, I do have an advantage over him, from saving my energy and my sharper skills. That’s what I think I have my advantage in.”

Both athletes are renowned for their incredible technical prowess and deep bag of tricks, each regarded among the planet’s top pound-for-pound strikers.

But after sharing the ring with Tawanchai for 15 action-packed minutes and putting in countless hours in the gym to upgrade his overall physical abilities, Superbon is sure that he has what it takes to even the score and become a two-sport ONE World Champion.

He added:

“I am confident that I have better and smoother skills and techniques, combined with more physical fitness compared to the previous fight. I’m sure everything will come out perfectly.”

Superbon Speaks On Two-Sport Glory

Even though he currently holds the featherweight kickboxing gold, Superbon is certainly no stranger to “the art of eight limbs.”

With the vast majority of his professional fighting experience coming under Muay Thai rules, he is eager to reach the pinnacle in ONE Championship.

“I’ve been familiar with Muay Thai since I was born. Today, ONE Championship is the world’s biggest Muay Thai promotion. Its championship is the most prestigious. I need to prove that I’m the best Muay Thai World Champion.”

More than just cementing himself as the world’s best featherweight Muay Thai competitor, Superbon believes that simultaneously holding ONE World Titles across two different striking arts would make him the pound-for-pound best striker walking the planet today.

Tawanchai PK Saenchai is the next man up on his quest for greatness, but after that, he’s ready to take out as many contenders as he can.

Superbon said:

“The highest goal in my life is being a champion of two sports, being the number one striker. That’s my main goal. Tawanchai is holding a belt, and I’ll take down any top contenders so that I can reign at the top and reach the high point of my career.

“The other goal is to beat everyone in the rankings. I feel like the goal of fighting is to defeat everyone.”
