With Team Alpha Male And Wife By His Side, Sage Northcutt’s ‘Super’ Support System Powers His Return
After four years away from MMA competition, “Super” Sage Northcutt has surrounded himself with the right people for his highly anticipated return to the Circle.
On Friday, May 5, the American superstar will square off against Pakistani lightweight standout Ahmed Mujtaba at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on Prime Video – the organization’s first-ever event on U.S. soil.
Northcutt entered ONE Championship with lofty expectations. But things didn’t go as planned for the multiple-time Karate World Champion, who suffered a devastating knockout loss in his promotional debut back in May 2019.
Much has changed since fans last saw “Super Sage” in the Circle. Of course, he’s four years older and wiser, but he has spent significant time adding to his already well-rounded MMA game.
One key component to Northcutt’s comeback has been his continued training with the world-renowned Team Alpha Male under the tutelage of former MMA World Champion Urijah Faber. The Texas native has been working with the camp since late 2017, but now, he seems fully entrenched in the system.
The 26-year-old told ONEFC.com:
“I’m with a great team, great coaches. Urijah Faber and all the coaches at Team Alpha Male are awesome, so I’m just improving everything.
“I feel like I’ve improved in a lot of different areas. I’m looking forward to showing it.”
Known for its large roster of elite MMA fighters, experienced coaches, and grueling training sessions, Team Alpha Male is equipping Northcutt with all the tools he needs to properly reintroduce himself to ONE’s global fan base.
The Texas native knows that his showdown with Mujtaba is a critical one, a chance to re-orient his career on the path toward a ONE World Title. For that reason, he is pushing himself to the limit every day at the Sacramento-based camp.
He added:
“All I can say is I’m surrounded with an incredible team at Team Alpha Male, some of the best fighters around. It’s great in all aspects – great wrestlers, great grapplers, great strikers, along with great coaches.
“I’m stepping into the gym every single day. It’s like a fight every day.”
Sage Northcutt Is Thriving In Married Life
While Sage Northcutt’s training at Team Alpha Male will have a direct impact on his in-Circle performance, it’s a relationship outside of the sport that has put him in the right mindset for a triumphant return.
When he battles Ahmed Mujtaba at ONE Fight Night 10: Johnson vs. Moraes III on May 5, he’ll be fighting for the first time as a married man.
In December 2020, “Super Sage” tied the knot with actress and longtime girlfriend Amanda Leighton, whose voice fans might recognize from shows such as The Powerpuff Girls and Amphibia.
Northcutt said:
“My wife, she’s amazing. She’s a voiceover artist, she does voiceovers for all sorts of cartoons and different TV shows on Netflix.
“I can brag about her all day. She’s an actress too, a great actress. Super talented.”
The American phenom is now just a few short months away from this pivotal bout – perhaps the most important of his 14-fight MMA career.
Northcutt’s wife has played – and continues to play – a major role in his support system, ensuring that he feels good outside of the Circle so that he performs well inside of it.
“Super Sage” added:
“Having someone that’s there to support you and that’s what you look for, that’s what you want. That’s always a great feeling for one thing, just having someone. If you can have someone that’s on the same page as you, that’s awesome, too.
“So, I think marrying the right person, there’s so many great things you can go on for days about it. There’s a lot of great things from it.”
