‘Worthy Of The World Stage’ – Rambolek Vows To Keep Momentum Going At ONE Fight Night 24
Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon feels ready to make good on the potential he showcased in ONE Friday Fights.
The Thai phenom will return against Irishman Craig “Coco” Coakley at ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart on Prime Video, and after a recent rough patch, he’s aiming to build a new winning streak in U.S. primetime on Friday, August 2.
Rambolek was the first-ever contract winner from the weekly Asia primetime event series, but he suffered defeats in his next two appearances, including his U.S. primetime debut at ONE Fight Night 14.
However, the 21-year-old never stopped believing in himself, and he justified the step up when he defeated the surging Soner Sen this past February.
The Kiatpetch representative spoke to onefc.com about those ups and downs before returning at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok next month:
“I lost two fights in a row after I got the ONE Championship contract. At that time, I admit that I felt quite uncomfortable. I didn’t want to lose two fights in a row. I just went all out in the ring. But I made a mistake, so I lost. It hurt because I had the chance, but I didn’t do my job properly. I was disappointed in myself.
“I admit that my confidence decreased. But now my confidence is back after I bounced back to the winning side by beating Soner Sen. It made me feel like I have more power. I have more belief that I will be able to come back and make a statement at ONE Fight Night.”
Rambolek had time to analyze his shortcomings while he recovered from an injury sustained in his second loss against American star Asa Ten Pow.
The Chaiyaphum native knew he had to make some changes to compete against the new level of competition, and it paid off when he earned the victory at ONE Friday Fights 51.
Now looking ahead to his second U.S. primetime battle, he can’t wait to make amends:
“After I lost, I always thought that if I had the opportunity to come back and fight at ONE Fight Night again, I would give it my all like my life depended on it. I want to come back and make a statement.
“I changed many training methods. Sports science was brought in to help. I had to force myself to work harder. No matter how tired I was, I had to practice so that I could develop to be better and worthy of the world stage.
“I want everyone to believe that I deserved to be the first one from ONE Friday Fights to get the contract.”
Rambolek Plans To Kick His Way To Victory Over Coakley
Now back on the winning track with a 3-2 ONE record, Rambolek Chor Ajalaboon wants to move up in the stacked bantamweight Muay Thai division – and he has an opportunity to impress against Craig Coakley.
Though he’s not too familiar with “Coco,” the Thai saw some dangerous elements to the Irishman’s game in his brief debut against Suablack Tor Pran49 last December – and he will respect what his upcoming foe brings to the table:
“I can’t tell you much about Craig’s strengths and weaknesses. He is a tall boxer. He has formidable knees and elbows.
“I watched his fight with Suablack, but I didn’t learn much because he got knocked out in the first round. Even though he lost to Suablack, I won’t underestimate him.”
Rambolek isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel for his next outing. Instead, he will focus on attacking Coakley with the most dangerous parts of his arsenal.
At the same time, he will take lessons from Suablack’s victory over “Coco” and hope to replicate that success at ONE Fight Night 24.
He added:
“This fight is the same as usual. I will fight in my style, using legs as my main weapon, but using my weapons with more variety.
“I saw Suablack punch him in the body. I’ll try doing the same. I’m confident in my kicks, and I’m confident in my fighting experience.”
