‘You Can’t Get Sick Of Pesto’ – Mikey Musumeci Shares Signature Pasta Dish On ‘Good Day New York’
Reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion Mikey “Darth Rigatoni” Musumeci will never pass up an opportunity to spread his love of pasta.
Fresh off his stunning submission victory over Gabriel Sousa on June 7 at ONE 167: Tawanchai vs. Nattawut II on Prime Video, the New Jersey native recently made an appearance on “Good Day New York,” where he shared the recipe for his trademark pesto rigatoni.
As he explained to co-hosts Curt Menefee and Rosanna Scotto, Musumeci typically eats just one massive meal per day after hours of rigorous training.
That meal consists of at least one homemade pizza and about a pound of his favorite rigatoni pasta.
The Italian-American said on Friday’s broadcast:
“You can’t get sick of pesto … I learned it from my friend from Italy, and it’s my favorite. It’s really easy to make. It’s very simple. So I finish training, all-day training, 24 hours, and then I’ll eat this.”
The 27-year-old BJJ superstar says that while it might be surprising to some, his body performs at its best when he’s eating nothing but pasta and pizza.
Clearly, the diet works. Musumeci is a five-time IBJJF World Champion, boasts an undefeated record in ONE submission grappling matches, and is widely regarded as the greatest-ever American-born BJJ competitor.
“Darth Rigatoni’s” appearance on “Good Day New York” marked a short break in his rigorous training schedule, as he’s now looking ahead to his toughest test yet.
On September 6, at ONE 168: Denver, he will move up three weight classes to challenge fellow BJJ sensation Kade Ruotolo for the ONE Lightweight Submission Grappling World Title – an epic showdown that has the martial arts world buzzing.
