Alex Silva has faced adversity his whole life, and come out on top. Born several months premature, the Brazilian overcame the odds to survive, but then had to face the demons of bullying growing up due to his small stature. Luckily, he found martial arts, with his first experience coming via Bruce Lee films. Soon he took up a host of different classes, including kung fu and capoeira to learn how to defend himself.
However, it was not until he was 13 that his life would change forever. Upon seeing for himself the effectiveness of Brazilian jiu-jitsu against larger and stronger opponents, “Little Rock” was hooked, and dedicated himself to his new passion. He went on to win numerous tournaments and competitions, including a gold medal at the Copa de Mundo World Championships, reaching the pinnacle of his grappling career.
Now a third-degree black belt, the Evolve MMA product has put his submission prowess to devastating effect in ONE Championship, tapping out five opponents in a row to earn a shot at Yoshitaka Naito’s ONE Strawweight World Championship. After a five-round war in which Silva showed off some world-class striking, the Brazilian handed Naito the first defeat of his career to capture the belt.
