Yoshitaka Naito is from Chiba and began training MMA at the age of 22 after watching some fights in legendary Japanese promotion Pride FC. He made his pro debut on a Shooto card in 2012 and went on to win by second round submission.
Naito took Shooto’s strawweight division by storm and rapidly established himself as the top contender for the title. After winning seven fights out of seven for the promotion he was finally rewarded with a shot at the belt in 2014.
He submitted reigning champion Shinya Murofushi with just three seconds remaining in the fifth round to become the Shooto strawweight champion. Naito went on to successfully defend the title twice.
In May 2016, Naito submitted Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke at ONE Championship’s inaugural blockbuster event in Bangkok, ONE: KINGDOM OF CHAMPIONS, successfully capturing the ONE Strawweight World Championship in the former champion’s backyard. Still the reigning champion, Naito remains undefeated in his professional career.
